Riding to Sturgis? Try These Tips.
These tips can help make your adventure to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally more enjoyable.
Sturgis is a bucket-list destination for most riders. Each year hundreds of thousands of bikers descend on Sturgis, South Dakota, turning the small town into a motorcycle mecca. Here are a few tips if you’re headed to the Sturgis Rally this year.
Make the most of Sturgis
It’s easy to become overwhelmed with the sights and sounds of Sturgis, so leaving room for spontaneity is essential, meaning you don’t need a minute-by-minute itinerary. But a few guidelines will help ensure you are in the right place at the right time for riding, dining and entertainment.
Before you leave, check out the event schedule to see what’s in store throughout the week and plan accordingly.
Prepare your bike
Nothing is worse than a breakdown, whether on Main Street in Sturgis or riding to and from the rally. It is imperative to ensure your bike is roadworthy for your cross-country adventure. Check your tires for proper inflation and tread depth; chain or belt condition; brakes; lights and, of course, fluids.
A fresh oil change with AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil will help your engine deliver peak performance, even in the intense Sturgis summer heat.
Stay cool and hydrated
Sturgis gets very hot in the summer. Bring light-colored clothing that breathes and reflects the sunlight. Wear long sleeves that are lightweight and easy to remove to prevent sun and windburn, or wear mesh pants and a jacket for even more protection. Don’t forget sunscreen to protect your skin when you aren’t covered.
Did we mention Sturgis gets hot? Staying hydrated is key to staying alert while clocking miles on a hot bike under the hot summer sun. Plan rest stops at gas stations and waysides to rehydrate and restock your fluids.
